geg

n. /ɡɛɡ/ Northern Irish

A laugh; a joke; a person or situation that delivers one. A good night is a geg, and so is the mate who made it one.

Related to the craic but smaller and more specific: the craic describes the whole night, a geg is one of the bits you retell afterwards. A person can be a geg, a night can be a geg, and the retelling usually counts as one too. The best gegs come at somebody's expense, and that somebody is usually left scundered.

Geg in a sentence

Usually with "what a" or "pure" in front, and calling a person "a quare geg" is, in Northern Irish fashion, a high compliment.

The dog made it into the wedding speeches.

Geg.

Granny won the quiz and gloated for a week.

Pure geg.

He fell asleep in the photo booth. We kept the strip.

What a geg.

Mortified is a party game built for exactly that. Your name lands on the screen, the room writes answers in secret, and the reveal does the rest. One person buys, the whole room plays.
