banjaxed

adj. /ˈbæn.dʒækst/ Irish · Northern Irish

Broken, wrecked, ruined; of a person, exhausted. The washing machine is banjaxed, the plan is banjaxed, and after the week you have had, so are you.

Irish in origin and used the length of the island, banjaxed covers machinery that has given up and people who have. Its etymology is genuinely unknown, which feels right for a word about things beyond repair.

Banjaxed in a sentence

Things are banjaxed when they are broken; people are banjaxed when they are wrecked. Both uses are everyday.

The lawnmower coughed once and died mid-stripe.

Banjaxed.

Banjaxed.

The telly gave up at kick-off.

Mortified

The dignity-shredding party game.

Mortified is a party game for the start of the night, not the end of it. Your name lands on the screen, the room writes answers in secret, and the reveal does the rest. One person buys, the whole room plays.
